White Sox trade deadline plan after their Luis Castillo deal is an exciting one

The Chicago White Sox were one of the first teams to make a big move at this year's trade deadline, swinging a deal with the Seattle Mariners for starting pitcher Luis Castillo.

They sent prospect Boston Smith, reliever Seranthony Dominguez, and outfielder Nolan Jones to Seattle to acquire Castillo, and the final year and a half of his $108 million contract.

But, after that trade, there are still two days to go before the MLB trade deadline passes. Are the White Sox done? According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the White Sox not only are still looking to add, but they are also still interested in starting pitching upgrades.

"Even after adding right-hander Luis Castillo, the AL Central-leading White Sox remain open to bringing in another starting pitcher, said someone briefed on their plans who spoke on the condition of anonymity to freely discuss deliberations," Rosenthal reports.

This is a very interesting and exciting update for the White Sox. The move for Castillo was already a good start, but now it appears the White Sox aren't done adding just yet.

With Davis Martin and Sean Burke leading the rotation, adding Castillo gives the White Sox three main starting pitchers with Noah Schultz, Anthony Kay, and Erick Fedde as depth. One more starting pitcher addition would make a huge difference.

The White Sox have a ton of different options to consider. With this report indicating they're still in the market for rotation help, they have a choice to make: land a rental, or pursue another controllable starter.

Reid Detmers and Jose Soriano of the Los Angeles Angels would be ideal controllable starting pitchers. They'd make a ton of sense for the White Sox, though they would be a bit expensive.

The rental market is much more robust and intriguing. Robbie Ray of the San Francisco Giants, Clay Holmes and Freddy Peralta of the New York Mets, and Foster Griffin of the Washington Nationals are just a few of the trade targets for the White Sox to consider.

Kevin Gausman, Shane Bieber, Trevor Rogers, Dustin May, and Brady Singer are some other rental options for the White Sox, though the aforementioned group of four might be their best options.

Regardless of what kind of starter the White Sox pursue, they're reportedly going to stay active in the starting pitching trade market, with their eyes set on further upgrading the rotation for a postseason push this year.
