White Sox release ex-Giants first baseman who hit .250 in Spring Training

Major League spring training cuts will be made regularly over the next few days as Opening Day approaches.

The Chicago White Sox are making a change in the infield, releasing first baseman/outfielder LaMonte Wade Jr. Wade, a seven-year veteran, signed a minor league contract with the hopes of earning a bench spot and in pinch-hit situations against right-handers.

His spring performance was average, though, as he hit .250/.378/.417 with one home run and 10 strikeouts compared to seven walks in 45 trips to the plate. Thus, his tenure with the AL Central club was brief.

Wade ready for fresh start after White Sox release

There's likely to be a club willing to take a flier on Wade, who has some pop in his bat and hit a career high 18 home runs with the San Francisco Giants in 2021. Chicago's younger roster may not have been the best fit.

Teams in need of a left-handed bat with Major League success could give the 32-year-old a call.

The Giants and the Los Angeles Angels exposed Wade to just 24 at-bats against lefties in 2025, and the results (.298 OPS) were not pretty.
