Rule 5 Draft picks are never a guarantee, but the Chicago White Sox took a chance on Jedixson Paez from the Boston Red Sox during the offseason.
Now, Paez has made the White Sox roster for Opening Day.
That means that, for now, Paez is staying in Chicago. He'll have to remain on the White Sox MLB roster the whole season, or he would be offered back to Boston.
Paez will do his best to make the most of a wild opportunity for himself.
Source: Right-hander pitching prospect Jedixson Páez has been informed he made the Opening Day roster of the Chicago White Sox.
Páez, 22, will go straight to the big leagues without passing through Double-A.

As Romero writes in that post, Paez hasn't even pitched at Double-A, let alone Triple-A.
The Venezuelan right-hander topped out at High-A Greeneville in 2025. He had a 2.79 ERA at that level with 23 strikeouts in 19.1 innings.
His career minor league ERA is 3.22, with 10.8 strikeouts per nine innings.
Clearly, the White Sox like Paez's stuff, but this can be difficult to navigate.
In order to keep him in the organization, they'll need him in the MLB bullpen. He'll likely get as many low-leverage situations as possible to avoid stunting his development with too much early stress.
It's a chance worth taking for the White Sox to add another high-upside arm to their system. And Paez making the Opening Day roster is the first step toward seeing what happens.
