White Sox make trade with Phillies for 13-year MLB veteran outfielder

The Chicago White Sox are gearing up for the final push of a postseason run. 

On Monday, ESPN's Jeff Passan reported that the AL Central club made a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies for a veteran outfielder. 

"Trade news: The Chicago White Sox are acquiring outfielder Tommy Pham from the Philadelphia Phillies, sources tell ESPN," Passan wrote on X. 

Players signed to minor league deals or who weren't on 40-man rosters are eligible for trades after the August 3 deadline. Pham falls into that category. 

"Pham is expected to join the White Sox when rosters expand Sept. 1. The 38-year-old rejoins the Sox after spending parts of 2026 with the Mets, O's and Phils," Passan added. 

The 38-year-old has suited up for 10 teams across a 13-year MLB career that began in 2014. Pham signed a minor league deal with the Phillies in late June.

He hit .250/.381/.391 with three home runs and 25 RBIs in 44 games at Triple-A Lehigh Valley. 

At his age, it remains to be seen what Pham is capable of at the Major League level. He stepped up to the plate 14 times earlier this year with the New York Mets, but went hitless and struck out in half of those opportunties. 

The White Sox have a full 40-man roster and will need to make a move to accommodate the trade for Pham.
