White Sox make never-before-seen MLB history after clinching playoff berth

There are plenty of incredible stories all around Major League Baseball from the 2026 MLB season, but there might not be a more impressive one than what the Chicago White Sox have done.

For three straight seasons, the White Sox lost at least 100 games, including a brutal 121-loss season in 2024 that was incredibly dispiriting. But after Thursday's win over the Kansas City Royals, the White Sox have made the postseason.

This postseason berth for the White Sox has made some incredible MLB history. According to Sarah Langs, the 2026 White Sox are the first team ever in MLB history to make the postseason after at least two 100-plus-loss seasons before their postseason year.

"The White Sox!!! First team in MLB history to make the playoffs after at least two consecutive 100+ loss seasons. What a story," Langs shared on Twitter/x.

On Thursday, September 24, the White Sox beat the Royals 9-1 in Kansas City, reaching an 82-77 record and clinching a postseason berth.

While the AL Central is still up for grabs, the White Sox have already made some incredible MLB history. No team in MLB history, which spans quite a long time, has ever done what the White Sox just did.

No club has ever lost 100 or more games in back-to-back seasons and followed it up with a playoff berth. The White Sox are the only team ever to accomplish this feat.

While they're not the first team to go from 100-plus losses to the postseason, they're the first team to have two seasons of 100-plus losses and still make the playoffs the next season.

But what makes this all the more impressive, and potentially an unbreakable record, is that the White Sox have 100-plus games in three straight seasons. 

No team has ever made the postseason after two such seasons. The White Sox did it after three. This is an all-time incredible season for the White Sox, regardless of how the postseason plays out. This never-before-seen feat in MLB history proves it.
