The Chicago White Sox are looking like a legitimate postseason contender this season, and not just because of how weak the AL Central and the AL Wild Card field are this year.
Looking at this roster, the offense is one of the best power-hitting clubs in MLB, behind only the Los Angeles Dodgers in homers this season. So, it would be no surprise if the White Sox acted as trade deadline buyers this summer.
But who makes the most sense for the White Sox to target? According to MLB insider Robert Murray of Fansided.com, the White Sox's best fit at the MLB trade deadline is 3.93 ERA left-handed starter for the Los Angeles Angels, Reid Detmers.
Why Reid Detmers is 'best fit' for White Sox at trade deadline
"Best fit: Reid Detmers, Los Angeles Angels," Murray writes. "If he does, Getz should target players who are controllable, not rentals, and adding to the starting rotation would make a ton of sense..."
The starting rotation for the White Sox is their biggest weakness right now, and is the one spot that general manager Chris Getz should be looking to upgrade by the August 3 trade deadline if the White Sox are buying.
The 40-37 White Sox currently have Davis Martin, with a 3.18 ERA in a breakout year, as the team's ace. But Sean Burke has a 3.89 ERA, Noah Schultz is injured and has a 5.82 ERA, Anthony Kay has a 4.24 ERA, and Erick Fedde has a 4.46 ERA.
Adding a starting pitcher in a trade makes the most sense of any potential move this summer for the White Sox. And Detmers, the Angels' left-handed starter, might be the best fit possible for the White Sox.

Detmers is a 26-year-old starter who is under club control through the 2028 season, which is a huge reason for the White Sox to trade for Detmers instead of some rental options.
This White Sox team isn't just going to contend in 2026; ideally, they'll be contenders for the foreseeable future as well.
While Detmers might not be a Cy Young candidate this season, he's a controllable starter who is not expensive and is having a solid season for the Angels.
He would cost a lot in a trade, but if the White Sox wanted to add a starter to help in 2026 and beyond, Detmers is the best fit for the team ahead of the August 3 trade deadline.
