White Sox cut ties with 4.37 ERA former Astros World Series champion

The Chicago White Sox have parted ways with a former Houston Astros World Series champion. 

On Tuesday, the AL Central club announced a pair of roster moves. 

First, left-hander Noah Schultz has been recalled from Triple-A Charlotte. 

In a corresponding move, right-hander Jose Urquidy was designated for assignment. Chicago used the former starting pitcher as a multi-inning guy. 

With the White Sox, Urquidy posted a 4.37 ERA with 15 strikeouts and five walks in 22.2 innings. He made six appearances, including one spot start. 

The 31-year-old was acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates in July after the NL Central club designated him for assignment.

Urquidy's short stint with the White Sox wasn't terrible, but it's unclear what role he'd have on the team in the postseason. There's a decent chance he would've been left off their initial playoff roster. 

If Urquidy is claimed by another club off waivers, he won't be eligible to pitch in the postseason. 

Tommy John Surgery kept him sidelined for most of 2024 and 2025, but he was a solid middle-of-the-rotation starter with the Astros from 2021-22.
