Once a team has finished its season, one of the first steps is to hand out future contracts to every player they want to have on the roster when the new league year begins. Though the Denver Broncos' season ended earlier than they were hoping for, the team has handed out several future contracts.
NFL future contracts are eligible for any player who wasn't on an active roster when the season ended. These are typically given to practice squad players, but free agents can also sign one. The contract places the player on a reserve list for the coming season, but that player is unable to negotiate with any other team.
The Broncos had 17 players on their taxi squad this year; as of this writing, 14 have been signed to future deals.
