The inaugural Women's Pro Baseball League regular season is in the books; now it's time to crown a champion.
San Francisco has been the dominant team so far, with top overall draft pick Kelsie Whitmore playing the expected starring role. The two-way standout was among the league's top hitters during the regular season with a .451 average, 1.669 OPS and 11 home runs in 15 games.
That didn't quite put Whitmore at the top of the statistical heap, though. New York catcher Denae Benites posted outrageous numbers across the board, with a league-leading .552 average, 1.752 OPS and 15 stolen bases along with 11 homers to match Whitmore for the WPBL lead.
Offense was the story of the regular season. We'll see if that translates to the playoffs with hardware on the line.
