Two of the nation's proudest baseball programs square off this weekend as No. 13 LSU visits Vanderbilt for a three-game series to open SEC play.

The 2026 season is a bit of a work in progress for both teams as conference play begins. The Tigers' 13-5 record is reasonable enough but the losses have been unexpected: midweek home defeats against McNeese, Northeastern and Louisiana-Lafayette and a pair of losses Sacramento State at Alex Box last weekend.

Despite those curious struggles, the Tigers have plenty of talent as always. Junior outfielder Jake Brown is leading the way with a .413 average, 1.336 OPS, nine home runs and 28 RBIs and top-10 2026 MLB Draft prospect Derek Curiel is hitting .329, while starting pitchers William Schmidt (0.82 ERA) and Cooper Moore (1.00 ERA) have been largely untouchable.

Vanderbilt (11-7), on the other hand, has mostly taken care of business against opponents it would be expected to beat but hasn't been able to get over the top against bigger-name teams, including losses to TCU, Oklahoma State, UC Irvine, Arizona and Oregon. That seasoning could end up preparing the Commodores well for the rigors of SEC play, but only time will tell.

Brodie Johnston, Braden Holcomb and Ryker Waite are the players to watch in the Vandy lineup, but the Commodores will need better starting pitching to compete with the conference's power players.

The SEC gauntlet begins this weekend in Nashville. Here's how to watch all three games.
