This Saturday, USC (4-5) takes on Nebraska (5-4) at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in a key matchup between two storied programs battling for bowl eligibility.
In their recent matchup, the Trojans fell to the Washington Huskies in a close 26-21 contest. Meanwhile, the Cornhuskers also faced defeat, losing 27-20 to the UCLA Bruins.
The game will see a major shift for USC, as head coach Lincoln Riley has opted to start backup QB Jayden Maiava, a UNLV transfer, over the season’s original starter, Miller Moss. The 6'4", 205-pound Maiava stepped up last season in Week 4 for UNLV when starting quarterback Doug Brumfield went down with an injury.
Maiava hit the ground running, leading the Rebels to four consecutive wins and a spot in the Mountain West Conference championship game. Completing 63.5% of his passes for 3,085 yards, with 17 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
For Nebraska, Dylan Raiola threw for 177 yards, completing 14 of 27 passes (51.9%) with one touchdown and one interception last time out. Dante Dowdell was effective on the ground, carrying the ball 17 times for 61 yards and punching in two touchdowns.
