One of the most prestigious youth competitions in the country is back for its 101st annual edition — the Scripps National Spelling Bee returns to D.C. this week.

A total of 247 child prodigies have qualified to participate in this year's event, traveling from across the country to take part in the festivities. The 2026 spelling bee will take place at a new venue — DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C.

Last year, the Bee celebrated its 100th anniversary, marking a century of tradition and excellence in youth education. Thirteen-year-old Faizan Zaki from Allen, Texas won the centennial championship by correctly spelling the French-origin word "éclaircissement".

Who will hoist the Scripps Cup this year?
