Perennial rivals go head to head Friday as Providence Day travels to face Rabun Gap-Nacoochee in a regular-season fixture that often sees a rematch in the playoffs.
Though Rabun Gap is located in Georgia, it plays in North Carolina's independent association, the NCISAA, where it has plenty of history against Charlotte-based Providence Day. The teams met for the state title in 2024, 2023 and 2021, with the Chargers taking two of the three championships.
The Eagles finally picked up their first win of the season last week as they navigate a brutal schedule which saw them play nationally ranked teams the first three weeks. Suffice to say, this is not your average 1-3 team at this point in the season, and Rabun will be eager to keep the momentum going at home against another opponent with a national pedigree.
PD has three dominant wins in its four games to date, but the lone loss stands out. The Chargers absorbed a stunning 30-3 loss to NCHSAA state champion Hough two weeks ago, though they bounced back with a 49-7 rout of Butler last week. PD's defense, which has a D1 recruit at nearly every position, will look to stay in lockdown mode this week.
