It's opening weekend at the State Fair of Texas, which means it's time for Grambling and Prairie View to face off in Dallas.
The State Fair Classic dates to 1925 and the Tigers and Panthers have met at the Cotton Bowl every season since 1992. While Grambling long held the upper hand in the series, Prairie View has won seven of the last eight matchups.
The Panthers are off to a 1-3 start against a tough schedule, with losses to Baylor and a pair of top-10 FCS teams in Tarleton State and Stephen F. Austin. Their lone victory, a blowout of Texas Southern, saw Tevin Carter throw four touchdown passes and rush for another score, and they'll be hoping for something more along those lines Saturday.
Grambling is two weeks removed from an ugly loss at TCU on the heels of comfortable home wins against Clark Atlanta and Central State. Their balanced offense has generated 201.3 yards per game on the ground and 245.7 through the air, presenting plenty of problems for Prairie View to manage.
