Where to watch Canada vs. Suriname live stream, TV channel, lineups, time, prediction for Nations League quarterfinal

Holding a slim one-goal aggregate advantage, Canada returns home to face Suriname in the second leg of their CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday.

Just like the United States the evening before in Jamaica, Les Rouges struggled to assert dominance on the road in the Caribbean. It took until the 82nd minute for Junior Hoilett to put Canada in front and secure the hard-fought 1-0 victory.

Canada out-shot Suriname 13-2 and put five efforts on target, but could only find one late strike as they were repeatedly thwarted by Groningen goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen.

Missing superstar Alphonso Davies, Canada are hoping to put any uncertainty of reaching the semifinals lest they let Suriname hang around as they did in the first leg.

Canada vs. Suriname lineups & team news

The biggest bit of team news for Canada is the surprise absence of Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies, who withdrew from the squad before the break due to what the federation called "physical fatigue" and "exhaustion," replaced by Sam Adekugbe. It's a disappointing turn of events for a player who could have been rested in either September or October friendlies but played the full 90 minutes in all three games.

Also unavailable is forward Lucas Cavallini who tore his ACL back in August.

Hoping to make his first Canada international appearance is 19-year-old defender Jamie Knight-Lebel who has helped Crewe Alexandra to a promotion challenge early in the League Two season. He was an unused substitute in the Panama friendly last month after being brought in for his first senior camp.

Canada projected starting lineup (5-2-3): Crepeau (GK) — Ahmed, Waterman, Bombito, Johnston, Laryea — Kone, Eustaquio — Shaffelburg, David, Oluwayesi.

A quick review of the Suriname roster will draw notice to a number of players with Netherlands descent, thanks to Suriname's roots as a former Dutch colony. Chief amongst them is Dutch-born forward Sheraldo Becker who has been a key member of the national setup over the last two years and moved to La Liga side Real Sociedad this summer after a five-year stint with Union Berlin.

They are captained by Hammarby defender Shaquille Pinas while their appearance leader is striker Gleofilo Vlijter who plays for Serbian side OFK Beograd. Vlijter has 15 goals in 24 international appearances, including a key strike against Costa Rica in a 1-1 draw that helped them through to their first-ever Nations League quarterfinal appearance.

Suriname projected starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Vaessen (GK) — van Gelderen, Abena, Denswil, Haps — Malone, Pinas — Becker, Lonwijk, van der Kust — G. Vlijter.

Canada vs. Suriname prediction, betting odds & lines

  • Score prediction: Canada 3-0 Suriname

Canada did well to batter Suriname through the first 90 minutes, even as the opposing goalkeeper kept them at bay. They should be fine to see this through with ease now with the second leg at home.
