Two of Georgia's most storied high school programs go head-to-head Saturday as Buford hosts Gainesville on a national stage.
The Wolves enter the season opener ranked No. 7 nationally by MaxPreps, while the Red Elephants are No. 37 in the country.
Buford will look to pick up where it left off after a perfect 2025 season ended with a 6A state championship. Senior linebackers Ethan Hauser (Vanderbilt commit), Brayden Watson (Michigan) and Joshua Echols (Middle Tennessee State) lead a stellar defense, while quarterback DJ Hunter is headed to James Madison next year.
Gainesville fell in the 5A title game last season but has plenty of talent returning, led by four-star linebacker Jeremiah Proctor (Pitt) along with QB Kharim Hughley (Clemson) and running back Nigel Newkirk (Alabama).
