The opening game of the 2026 World Series lived up to expectations, with the Brewers hanging on for a tight 3-2 victory over the Rays before a raucous crowd in Milwaukee.
Jacob Misiorowski gave the Brewers five strong innings and Tampa Bay couldn't do meaningful damage against him or Milwaukee's lockdown bullpen. Nick Martinez surrendered two first-inning runs for the Rays in something of a surprise Game 1 start but was solid after that, and now the visitors have their ace set to go in Game 2.
The pressure will be on Drew Rasmussen as the Rays try to wrest home-field advantage from the Brewers before heading back to Tropicana Field. A sixth-round pick by Milwaukee in 2018 who made his MLB debut with the team in 2020 before he was traded to Tampa Bay the following year, Rasmussen has been brilliant this postseason. The right-hander has allowed three runs in 21 innings across three starts while striking out 23.
The Brewers will counter with rookie Logan Henderson, who will make his third start of the playoffs after going 11-3 with a 2.47 ERA in 18 regular-season starts. The 24-year-old started and pitched well against the Padres and Dodgers this postseason, with the Brewers winning each of his starts, but he hasn't completed more than five innings since Sept. 3 and figures to have a shorter leash than Rasmussen.
