The American Legion World Series is back for its 99th edition, with top high school-age players from around the country playing for the title.
Shelby, North Carolina, will once again host the final stage of the event, which features the champions of eight regional tournaments held in early August. The teams are split into two brackets, with round-robin play set to determine the four semifinalists.
Last year's champion from Chesapeake, Virginia, did not make it back to the World Series, opening the door for a new title holder. Among the teams in this years World Series, the Great Lakes representative from Midland, Michigan, has the most recent trophy, in 2009.
