What better way to usher in the fall season than to cozy up and fully submerge yourself in a gloomy murder mystery series? Extra points if the show features a verdant, dreary landscape that makes it a bit easier to cope with our long sunny summer days becoming shorter and cooler. Fox’s Murder in a Small Town is your perfect match.
The crime show, based on L.R. Wright’s popular novel series, is back for season 2, and this time with more crime scenes and romantic sparks between Karl Alberg (Rossif Sutherland) and Cassandra Lee (Kristin Kreuk). The Canadian-American-produced series premiered in 2024, but its new season was released just last month on September 23.
Here’s everything you need to know about the mystery drama’s new season — and how you can binge the old one.
What is Murder In A Small Town About?
Don’t be fooled by the town’s seemingly blissful ambiance, because new police chief Karl Alberg surely was. We follow Karl’s transition from a big bustling city to a small “still” town, where he is immediately put to work because of piling secrets that quickly stain the peaceful idea he had of his new place. But this show isn’t all mysteries and murders. We get to watch the budding romance between Karl and Cassandra, the local librarian. It’s an ideal balance between love and crime.

Where is Murder In A Small Town Filmed?
If you’re anything like me, you probably try to guess where a show or movie is filmed within the first few minutes of watching. I look at the city’s architecture, but is it even a city? Or a town? Or a village? What’s the ecosystem like? Does anyone have an accent?
Save yourself the at-home detective work because you’ll need it throughout the show. Viewers of show know that it takes place in a small Canadian town called Gibsons, but you may not be aware that both seasons of Murder in a Small Town were filmed in the real life small Canadian town of Gibsons, British Columbia (population: 4,758). True story! Fun fact: This coastal town is part of an area known as “The Sunshine Coast.”
What Can We Expect in Murder In A Small Town Season 2?
Murder in a Small Town’s executive producer, Jeff Wachtel, told TV Insider that, unlike the inaugural season, the second one moves away from the serial killer arc.
“There is going to be a season-long mystery in Season 2, which will involve more than one killing. It won’t be episode-specific, but both Karl and Cassandra will be kind of tracking it from different angles,” Wachtel said.
How Many Episodes Are In Murder In A Small Town Season 2?
The crime series features 10 episodes this season. Last season only had eight episodes, so we’ve been gifted two more this time around. That means the drama must be good.
