Cameron Norrie pulled off one of the biggest tennis shocks of the year as he fought back to beat Carlos Alcaraz at the Paris Masters on Tuesday (October 28).
The British No. 2 rallied to beat the World No. 1 and top seed 4-6 6-3 6-4 to advance from the Round of 32 stage at the year's final ATP 100 event.
The defeat for Alcaraz was his first at a Masters tournament since David Goffin got the better of him at the Miami Open in March.
The Spaniard now runs the risk of losing his status as the world's best player, as a title triumph for Jannik Sinner in the French capital this week would see him reclaim the top ranking spot.
Norrie had to dig deep to pull off the upset in Paris, as after landing the crucial break in the deciding set to go up 4-3, he fought off two break points in his following service game.
The Brit secured the victory on his second match point to claim a third career win in eight matches against Alcaraz, and avenge his Wimbledon loss to the Spaniard from earlier this year.

Where Norrie's latest win ranks in his career

Norrie has had some memorable moments in his career, such as his win over Nikoloz Basilashvili in the 2021 Indian Wells final and a triumph Alcaraz in the 2023 Rio Open final.
However, the 30-year-old's latest outing is perhaps the most impressive of his career due to it being his first victory over a player ranked No. 1 in the world.
Norrie himself deems it his finest ever display on the court because of who he was up against.
"This win is so big for me. Massive. To get a win like this, it’s the biggest win of my career," he stated post-match.
"It's my first win over the world No 1 and probably the most confident player in the world right now."
Norrie was also delighted with the victory after the struggles he had at the event last year.
"Coming back from injury last year, I lost in the first round of qualifiers here. I've just tried to enjoy my tennis in the second half of the year."
After ending Alcaraz's 17-match winning streak at Masters 1000 events, Norrie will next take on the winner of Wednesday's (October 29) contest between Arthur Rinderknech and Valentin Vacherot in the last 16.
