What happens in Serious People and who stars in it?

When he is hired to direct a high-profile music video for rap artist Drake, a scheduling conflict arises, his wife Christine is due to give birth on the same day as the shoot.
As the rap artist is in talks to book Pasqual for the next blockbuster music video shoot, it will be impossible for him to be with his wife at a birth appointment happening at the same time. Not wanting to forego any of the two occasions, Pasqual mocks up an unusual plot in which a hired lookalike will attend the set in place of him.
The scenario deteriorates rapidly with the impersonator gradually losing himself in the role of the original.
Pasqual Gutierrez is the main character playing a made-up version of himself, and Christine Yuan, his wife in real-life, plays the role of the partner of Pasqual, Christine.
Raul Sanchez plays the role of Raul, Pasqual's directing collaborator, and Miguel Huerta plays the role of Miguel, the doppelgänger hired to impersonate him. The film uses flashbacks and improvisational sequences to explain how Pasqual's decision affects his work and his relationships with people both in the past and in the present time.
