Ryan Gosling’s new sci-fi adventure movie, Project Hail Mary, is the latest to join the ranks of successful two-hour-long space movies starring hunky leading men. Officially released in theaters on March 20 after a high-profile press tour, complete with an SNL guest-hosting slot and a NYC Lincoln Center Premiere with a large-scale hologram show, the movie dominated the box office in its opening weekend, marking the biggest debut of 2026 so far with $80.5 million.
For those who have somehow avoided the buzz around the film, Project Hail Mary centers around Dr. Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling), a science teacher who wakes up on a spacecraft with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. The film is an adaptation of the 2021 novel of the same title by Andy Weir, and it co-stars Sandra Hüller, James Ortiz, and Lionel Boyce.
If you want the full experience, you should definitely go see it on the big screen. But if you want to wait to watch the movie at home, then read on for what we know about when and where the Project Hail Mary movie will be streaming.
Where to watch the Project Hail Mary movie:
For now, Project Hail Mary is only available to watch in theaters. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. Project Hail Mary is not yet available to watch online or on streaming.
Since the film was produced by Amazon MGM Studios, when the movie is available to stream at home, it will likely be available to stream on Amazon’s Prime Video.
When will the Project Hail Mary movie be streaming on Amazon Prime Video?
A streaming release date for Project Hail Mary has not yet been announced, but we can expect to see it streaming on Prime Video by late summer 2026 at the latest.
Other recent Amazon MGM titles, like the Melania Trump documentary Melania, After the Hunt, and The Accountant 2, arrived on Prime Video around 40 days after their initial theatrical releases. If Project Hail Mary follows a similar release strategy, you might see the title on digital around late April 2026 and streaming free on Prime Video around early May 2026.
Of course, this is all speculation. It’s very possible that MGM will want to keep the film in theaters for longer than a month, especially given that it broke the studio’s record for biggest opening ever.
All in all, if you want to watch from the comfort of your couch, you will have to wait for the movie’s release on Amazon Prime Video. But if you want to watch Project Hail Mary right away, you should go see it in theaters, as the filmmakers intended.
