When Will Browns-Buccaneers Game Resume After Delay?

The Cleveland Browns were just minutes away from trying to close out their first win of the season when Mother Nature had a different idea of what was going to happen. Lightning forced a stoppage late in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, leaving Cleveland with a 23-19 lead.

It's been an exciting game for Browns fans. The team had erased a 10-point deficit and appeared to be on its way to finishing the comeback.

Instead, the game was put on hold with Baker Mayfield and Tampa Bay threatening to flip the score. The Buccaneers need a touchdown to take the lead, while a field goal would still leave Cleveland ahead.

When Will Browns-Bucs Resume Following Weather Delay?

There's no confirmed time for the game to resume yet, but we'll update this story when there is official word. We do know that the NFL weather rules require officials to wait at least 30 minutes after the latest nearby lightning strike before allowing players back onto the field.

That countdown starts over if another lightning strike is detected, meaning the delay could continue for quite a while depending on the weather. The teams did not return to the field following the two-minute warning, leaving the Browns one defensive stand away from securing their first victory of the season. This would be a huge win for Deshawn Watson, who's serving as the Browns' starting quarterback this season. Afetr getting booed by his own fans, a win would be a fantastic way for him to wrap up Week  2.
