When is Chris Godwin coming back? Latest injury update on Buccaneers wide receiver

4 hours ago 2

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won't have the services of wide receiver Chris Godwin for the Week 7 game versus the Detroit Lions.

Godwin suffered a fibula injury in the Week 5 win over the Seattle Seahawks and has not played or practiced since then. Over the course of this past week, Godwin was a non-participant in practice each day before being ruled out.

The Bucs dodged a bullet with rookie Emeka Egbuka and Mike Evans is finally back in Week 7, but it goes without saying having Godwin on the field only makes the Buccaneers' offense better.

So, when can we expect him back? Here's what we know.

When is Chris Godwin coming back?

Head coach Todd Bowles told reporters that Godwin is "week-to-week" with his fibula issue and based on the fact that he did not practice at all this past week indicates there's a chance he sits out in Week 8, also.

However, it is worth noting that Godwin was not placed on injured reserve, which means the Bucs are at least hoping he won't miss four games.

So, there is a chance that Godwin is back in Week 8, but if not, the earliest we'll see him again is Week 10, as the Bucs have a bye in Week 9.

Given Godwin's injury history in recent years, we would suspect the Bucs will take it slow with the veteran and will hold him out through the bye to give him extra time to get right, but that's just a guess.
