The Minnesota Vikings have been without both quarterback J.J. McCarthy and running back Aaron Jones for multiple games so far this season.
Both players are inactive once again in Week 7 against the Philadelphia Eagles. McCarthy has been battling an ankle injury, while Jones is on injured reserve because of a hamstring issue.
McCarthy is serving as the Vikings' emergency third quarterback, though, which is a good sign for his status for next week, although there are some doubts he's going to get his starting job back.
Here's what we know about when McCarthy and Jones will return.
When is J.J. McCarthy coming back?
There is no definitive answer on this yet, although McCarthy did show progress this week with three limited practices, so it appears he's getting close and has a chance to return next week.
However, there is at least a chance the Vikings could stick with Carson Wentz upon McCarthy's return, something NFL Network's Ian Rapoport hinted at.
"Who is the starter when McCarthy is a full-go? My understanding is the Minnesota Vikings are putting off that decision until they absolutely have to make it... If Carson Wentz wins this week, wins next week, 4-1 [as starter], it's hard to imagine the team making him the backup, after that run," Rapoport said.
When is Aaron Jones coming back?
Jones was placed on injured reserve after Week 2, which means he's only required to be on the list through Week 7, so he has a chance to return in Week 8.
That said, there hasn't been any indication that Jones will be ready to go when first eligible, so we'll be keeping an eye on his status throughout the week.
Jordan Mason will remain the top back in Minnesota until Jones returns.
