Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend Suresh Raina has lauded Shivam Dube for bowling an intelligent spell in the fourth T20I between India and Australia. He noted that the seam-bowling all-rounder outsmarted the opposition batters by thinking like a batter.
Dube scored an 18-ball 22 as India set Australia a 168-run target in Gold Coast on Thursday, November 6. The right-arm seamer then registered figures of 2/20 in two overs as the Men in Blue bowled the hosts out for 119 to seal a 48-run win and take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
During a discussion on Star Sports, Raina was asked about his thoughts on Dube's spell.
"When a batter bowls, he knows in which areas a batter can hit shots. Mitchell Marsh hit a shot against him and Arshdeep Singh took a good catch. It was the slower ball variation Parthiv (Patel) was talking about when he did the pitch report, that the ball would behave differently as it's on a slightly slower side," he said. The former India batter praised Dube for altering his pace and lengths brilliantly, highlighting that the CSK seam-bowling all-rounder could prove handy for Suryakumar Yadav in next year's T20 World Cup.
"The Indian fast bowlers executed those balls brilliantly. After that, Tim David had hit a six off the previous ball and then he bowled a back-of-the-length slightly off-spinning bouncer. It shows that when a batter bowls, he thinks differently, that a six cannot be hit off such a ball. When the World Cup happens, these two overs will be very crucial for any captain to get bowled," Raina observed.Shivam Dube was part of India's 2024 T20 World Cup-winning side. He has picked up 21 wickets at an economy rate of 9.29 in 31 T20I innings.
"The crucial bowler on display was Shivam Dube" - Parthiv Patel on all-rounder's spell in AUS vs IND 2025 4th T20I

"The crucial bowler on display was Shivam Dube. He picked up two extremely important wickets. He bowled only two overs. His job is like that only. He will bowl either two or three overs, and he might get a fourth over if he is bowling extremely well," he said. The Gujarat Titans (GT) assistant coach added that the 32-year-old dismissed two of the most important batters in the Australian lineup.
"However, he bowled only two overs and picked up two crucial wickets, extremely important batters, if we talk about Australia - Mitchell Marsh and Tim David," Parthiv observed.Shivam Dube first had Mitchell Marsh (30 off 24) caught by Arshdeep Singh in his first over. He then had Tim David (14 off 9) caught by Suryakumar Yadav in his second over after the Australian big-hitter had hit him for a massive six off the previous delivery.
