The most prestigious event in horse racing is here: the Kentucky Derby. Racing fans and celebrities alike flock to Churchill Downs for the annual event that kicks off the Triple Crown.
The Kentucky Derby features the best 3-year-old male Thoroughbred horses the world has to offer. This year's class features three horses with shorter than 9-1 odds.
Journalism, trained by Michael W. McCarthy, is the favorite to win the 2025 Kentucky Derby. He's a 3-1 favorite and has won four of his five career races. Close behind him are Sovereignty and Sandman, who have 5-1 and 6-1 odds, respectively.
Sandman is the most experienced of the trio as he preps for his ninth career race. The colt has three wins and has never fallen out of the top five. He's also raced at Churchill Downs three times but finished fifth twice and third once.
The third-place finish was in Sovereignty's one race at Churchill Downs, which he won. Journalism has not run on the Derby's dirt.
