What Julius Randle can mean to the Nets’ next stage — and why that may not be for long

Michael Porter Jr. has dominated much of the Nets’ offseason attention, for not just his scoring punch but his contract status and the possibility he becomes a trade asset.

But Julius Randle is the best player on Brooklyn’s roster, the only All-Star in their locker room. And as a soon-to-be 32-year-old on a young, rebuilding team — and a player that can choose to hit unrestricted free agency next offseason — it’s fair to wonder just how long he’ll be on the roster or in that locker room.

Even if Randle insists he doesn’t spend that much time wondering about it himself.

“I mean, I just focus on the main thing,” Randle said while hosting a clinic over the weekend at the Brooklyn Basketball Training Center. “I don’t really put my attention or energy on things that aren’t in my control or focus. I really just focus on things that are under my control. That’s just who I am as a person, you know?”
