What Jaxson Dart does next can define New York Giants' future coach, playoff chances

The New York Giants' future has arrived now, and his name is Jaxson Dart.

The rookie QB may be the future, but he's also set to define much of the Giants' full future, too.

Dart and the Giants are coming off an impressive upset win of the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday Night Football in Week 6.

They're just 2-4, so thinking about the playoffs this season may be a bit rushed (although if Dart and Cam Skattebo always play like that, they can go on a winning streak for sure).

But thinking about future years of playoff berths and title contention doesn't seem crazy, and so what Dart does the rest of this season could prove crucial.

One reason for that: the head coaching situation.

Brian Daboll hasn't lived up to the hype he brought when he was hired away from being the Buffalo Bills' offensive coordinator. But now, he seems to have a good early rapport with Dart.

Is Daboll the long-term answer? He may not be. But if Dart plays well with him, it'd be hard to get rid of him.

The other reality is that everything Dart does right now is a building block toward what he can do down the road.

Lessons learned against a defending Super Bowl champion in a nationally broadcast primetime game are the type of lessons that can be used in big games in January in the years to come.

Even if the Giants hit another bump or two and lose some games, this season is Dart's chance to prop himself up for potential greatness ahead.

And no matter who the coach ends up being, if Dart can reach his potential, the Giants can do special things with him as their quarterback.
