The United States wasn't considered a powerhouse entering the World Cup, but a rout of Paraguay in their opener plus the benefit of playing on their home soil have inspired some hope of an extended run.
The U.S. reached the knockout stage in Qatar in 2022, when only 16 teams advanced. With 32 teams in the knockout stage this time around, just advancing past the group stage won't be enough to satisfy hungry fans.
If they continue to impress, the Americans could see their world ranking reach new heights.

USMNT 2026 FIFA world rankings
The United States is currently ranked 15th in FIFA's live world rankings. That's two spots higher than their ranking entering the World Cup.

The highest ranking for the Americans' over the last eight months was 14th in December, and it's possible that mark could be within reach again.
