The New York Yankees are sitting atop the AL East right now, and look to be solidified as postseason contenders this season, even with Aaron Judge on the injured list right now.
But Judge isn't the only starter on the IL right now for the Yankees. Trent Grisham is also residing in IL, and now a new face is joining the two outfielders on the bench.
As Jack Curry of YES reports, the Yankees are placing Ryan McMahon on the injured list this season. The reason why isn't a typical injury, as McMahon is landing on the IL thanks to an ear and throat infection.
Why Ryan McMahon is landing on IL for Yankees
"Cabrera is being promoted to the Yankees," Curry reports. "McMahon is going on the IL with an ear/throat infection. #yankees."
This ailment for McMahon is not the typical kind of issue that lands a player on the injured list. But McMahon is hitting the IL due to an ear and throat infection, and Oswaldo Cabrera is taking his place on the MLB roster.
While the Yankees will be without McMahon for the next few days, since he hasn't played since Saturday, the Yankees can make his IL stint retroactive to a few days ago.

This allows for McMahon to be activated off the IL as soon as possible, while still giving him some time off to rest from an ear and throat infection.
The Yankees' left-handed hitting third baseman has struggled this season, hitting .210 with eight homers, 23 RBIs, and a .629 OPS.
Cabrera will take his roster spot, and Aaron Boone will use Jose Cabellero and Cabrera at third base until McMahon returns from an IL stint expected to be brief.
