What happened to Ronald Acuña Jr?

Ronald Acuña Jr. tore the ACL in his left knee nearly a year ago, on May 26.

He had surgery for the tear on June 6.

The injury came when Acuña attempted a fake steal of third base and injured his knee on the maneuver.

Acuña sat out the rest of the 2024 season. In his ramp-up to returning, he played in six minor-league rehab games.

Ronald Acuña Jr. ACL injury history

Acuña has had a bunch of bumps and bruises throughout his MLB career.

But he also once before tore an ACL.

That was in July 2021, when he attempted to make a leaping catch in right field. Acuña landed awkwardly.

The result was a torn ACL in his right knee.

So now, Acuña comes back having torn both his ACLs once.

Ronald Acuña Jr. stats

Acuña is one of the best players in baseball when healthy.

His last fully healthy season was 2023. That year, he batted .337 with 41 home runs and 73 stolen bases.

In his career, Acuña is a .289 hitter with 165 homers and 196 steals.

In his injury-abbreviated 2024, Acuña batted .250 with four home runs and 16 steals.

It's unclear whether he'll run much coming off his second serious knee injury, but it's just great for the Braves to have him back at all.
