What happened to Eury Perez? Why Marlins star left game vs. Blue Jays with surprise injury

1 hour ago 3

Eury Perez was cruising.

The Miami Marlins' star right-handed pitcher had shut out the Toronto Blue Jays for four innings on Wednesday afternoon.

A problem arose for the fifth, though, because Perez didn't come out to the mound.

Instead, Michael Petersen entered the game to pitch for Miami.

Perez had been removed due to injury, but what in the world actually happened? It's kind of confusing.

What happened to Eury Perez?

It sounds like Perez tweaked something between innings.

"While he was stretching in between innings, Eury Perez looked like he hurt himself," Sportsnet's Hazel Mae posted on X. "He immediately sat down on the Marlins bench. He needed to be helped out of the dugout and down the steps towards the clubhouse."

There's also video circulating on social media:

Most definitely a situation to monitor. pic.twitter.com/9EMp1DUfGj

It's definitely a weird one. You don't see a lot of injuries while sitting in the dugout.

There'll likely be more insight provided on Perez eventually.

For now, all that's clear is that he's shockingly out of the game. That's not good.
