What happened to Damar Hamlin? Why Bills' inspiring safety is in a new role with Buffalo

Damar Hamlin's name has meaning across the NFL.

The Buffalo Bills' inspiring safety, as most know, was in an absolutely scary scene a few years ago when he collapsed on the field in a game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Now, whenever fans tune into a Bills game, they wonder where Hamlin is.

And he's still there, although his role is a bit different now.

What happened to Damar Hamlin?

Damar Hamlin still plays for the Buffalo Bills. He's just a backup now instead of a starter at safety.

Taylor Rapp and Cole Bishop start at safety for the Bills now.

Bishop may have started last season, too, except he was hurt in the preseason as a rookie. That pressed Hamlin into duty, and although he made a lot of tackles, he didn't grade out well analytically.

This season, most of Hamlin's time is spent on the sideline.

Hamlin is still doing great things off the field, and he still gets onto the field for Buffalo occasionally.

But he doesn't have the opportunity he once did to be a full-time player for the Bills.
