What happened to Connor Williams? Seahawks starting center suddenly retires at 27 years old

The Seahawks already have plenty of issues at offensive line. So the last thing the organization needed was to lose one of the starting members of the unit.

That's exactly what happened with center Connor Williams.

Seattle's starting center retired suddenly ahead of Week 11 of the NFL season. Williams, 27, made the decision to walk away from the sport with eight games remaining in the 2024 regular season. He started in all nine games for the Seahawks so far this campaign.

What happened to Connor Williams?

Williams elected to retire from football at the age of 27.

Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said Friday the seven-year veteran made the decision earlier this week for "personal reasons." He does not expect Williams to ever walk back his comment and make a return.

"I don't believe so," Macdonald said. "We're honoring his wishes and we'll keep all those reasons and conversations private for obvious reasons and wish him the best."

The Seahawks head coach also mentioned that Williams' reason for hanging up his cleats is not due to any medical issue. Williams had surgery on his knee last year after tearing his ACL.

Olu Oluwatimi will take over as Seattle's starting center for Week 11.

Williams is in his first season as a member of the Seahawks organization. A second-round draft pick in 2018 out of Texas, he began his NFL career with the Cowboys, playing for Dallas from 2018 to 2021. After two seasons with the Dolphins, he inked a one-year deal with the Seahawks this offseason.
