Chase Elliott is often one of the best road course racers in NASCAR's Cup Series.
Certainly among the consistent competitors in non-road races, Elliott also has the well-rounded skillset.
He found himself in trouble on Sunday at the Circuit of the Americas, though.
Fans were trying to figure out what happened, as instead of running near the front, Elliott found himself near the back.
What happened to Chase Elliott?
Elliott had a really long pit stop at the end of Stage 1.
That set him back in his placement.
"The more I tried to be smooth with it, the worse I was," Elliott could be heard saying on his radio before the pit stop.
Elliott returned in 36th place.
At least he wasn't having as bad a day as Brad Keselowski, who came onto the track nine seconds behind Elliott, too.
Elliott could still work his way back up, but if his car just doesn't have it, maybe it won't quite be his day.
