The Boston Bruins got some major injury news on Thursday.

Charlie McAvoy, the 27-year old defenseman, has been added to Boston's active roster.

The Bruins play at the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday night, and the move suggests McAvoy will be back on the ice.

He hasn't played in a regular season game since Nov. 15.

What happened to Charlie McAvoy?

McAvoy has been out for almost a month after he took a slap shot puck to the face.

He sustained a facial fracture due to that incident, and hadn't played since.

McAvoy spoke to reporters Thursday after morning skate. He's expected to have some extra protection on his helmet.

“I mean, I’ve played with a bubble before," McAvoy said. "I feel pretty good as far as I’ve got plates in my jaw. I think I’m protected pretty well, so obviously we will see what happens whenever it happens. Maybe it’ll be a little shock at first, but then it’s just hockey.”

The Bruins had a 6-5 record in the 11 games they've played since McAvoy was injured.

He has played all 523 of his career games for Boston. That includes 60 goals and 254 assists in McAvoy's Bruins career.
