There's a decent chance you've come across the "6-7" trend on social media.
There's a strong chance you didn't know it started with a five-star basketball recruit, Taylen Kinney.
Thanks to The Athletic's Lindsay Schnell, the world now has all the details it could want about Kinney starting the trend that has now gone viral on TikTok and the rest of the social media world.
“It’s just two numbers, ain’t much to say,” Kinney told Schnell. “It doesn’t really mean nothing.”
What does '6-7' mean on TikTok?
It appears that "6-7" is less about the actual meaning and more about the virality of a trend.
Kinney, who plays in the prep basketball league run by Overtime Elite, originally said "six, seven" in a video posted by the league in which he was asked to rank his Starbucks drink. He made a hand motion suggesting he couldn't quite decide between six or seven.
After that, Kinney kept working "6-7" into whatever videos he was featured in, and it started to blow up.
Schnell wrote this:
"The Athletic has surmised that '6-7' means … nothing. For some, it’s a way to convey indifference, or whatever makes sense to the user. At its core, it’s a song lyric that social media turned into a meme. And like any and everything involving the internet, it’s evolving at a rapid rate. Understanding the cultural zeitgeist is secondary to being part of it: Fifteen-time NBA All-Star Shaquille O’Neal, the father of a 22-year-old, acknowledged he didn’t get it either. But sure, he’d be in a video mimicking it."
There is now "6-7" merchandise, including shirts and water bottles.
Jim Nantz made a reference to it during an NFL broadcast.
And it all overshadows just the kind of hooper Kinney is.

Who is Taylen Kinney?
Taylen "Tay" Kinney is much more than the guy who started the "6-7" trend.
He's also a top-15 recruit in the country for the basketball Class of 2026.
In Overtime Elite last season, Kinney averaged 20.1 points, 5.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game.
Ironically, the point guard Kinney is just 6-foot-3.
Where is Taylen Kinney going to play college basketball?
Kinney still has a college decision to make.
He's currently planning to announce his commitment on Sept. 28.
Kinney has narrowed it down to a final six: Kentucky, Louisville, Kansas, Oregon, Arkansas and Indiana.
Soon, he'll be hoping to go viral for much more than just a couple of numbers.
