North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick earned his first college win as the Tar Heels beat Charlotte this past weekend. They'll take on Richmond next after the Spiders dropped a close game against Wofford.
UNC hasn't played Richmond in almost 50 years, when the Tar Heels lost to the Spiders, 27-18, in 1978. North Carolina holds the all-time series lead, though, at 12-2.
North Carolina quarterback Gio Lopez shook off a bad season-opening performance with a solid game against Charlotte. He finished with a 68 percent completion rate, 155 passing yards and a touchdown.
Richmond, meanwhile, runs through quarterback Kyle Wickersham. The Spiders' signal-caller leads the team with 266 passing yards, one passing touchdown and two interceptions as well as 103 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.
