When the Padres and Mariners clash on "Friday Night Baseball," some of baseball's most exciting young talent will be on display.
Following an injury-riddled 2024 season, Fernando Tatis Jr. is fully healthy again — and, to the surprise of few, he looks like one of the best players in the league. Tatis is hitting .308 with a .943 OPS, and playing brilliant defense in right field, too. On Tuesday, he clubbed a dramatic walk-off home run to vault the Padres to a victory.
That's been a theme of late for San Diego (27-15), which entered play on Thursday just 0.5 games behind the first-place Dodgers in the NL West.
Seattle also enters the weekend as a first-place outfit, leading the way in the AL West despite a slew of injuries to its starting rotation. Cal Raleigh and Jorge Polanco have carried an offense that, to date, has been one of the biggest surprises in baseball.
Perhaps Julio Rodriguez is finally getting going, too. The talented center fielder enters Friday with a hit in seven of his last eight games, and he showcased his trademark defense with a home run robbery earlier this week.
