The first round NBA playoff matchup between the Denver Nuggets and the Minnesota Timberwolves will begin on Saturday, April 18. The winner of this series will advance to the conference semifinals.
The Nuggets finished the regular season with a 54-28 record, which was good enough to grant them the No. 3 seed. Denver was led throughout the year by star center Nikola Jokic. He averaged a triple-double this year with 27.7 points, 12.9 rebounds and 10.7 assists per game.
The Timberwolves went 49-33 in the regular season and are the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference, narrowly avoiding the play-in tournament. Minnesota will rely heavily on star point guard Anthony Edwards, who averaged 28.8 points during the regular season, to give them a backcourt advantage.
Denver made it to the conference semifinals in each of the last three years, having not made it out of the first round in 2022. Minnesota is riding a similar streak, with two straight trips to the conference finals. The last time that the Timberwolves failed to make it past the first round of the playoffs was in 2023 when they were eliminated by Denver.
