The 2024 MotoGP World Championship draws to a close with the 20th race on the calendar, and despite the title looking all-but sewn up, we could be in for one final twist as the 27 riders prepare to tackle the Circuit de Barcelona-Cataluyna – a fourth Spain-based meeting of the season – for the second time this campaign.
Hastily moved from Valencia to Barcelona following recent flooding in the region, the 20th meeting of 2024 is shaping up to be a straight shoot-out for the World Championship crown, with two-time defending winner Francesco Bagnaia an outside chance of making it three in a row and Jorge Martin in pole position to claim his first career title.
Despite only winning three races this year, compared to a whopping TEN for Bagnaia, Martin's 10 second-placed finishes have helped him keep the Italian at arm's length, and he held a 24-point advantage over Bagnaia coming into today's final meeting. The Spaniard could well be confirmed as champion before today's race begins, with up to 12 points on offer in Saturday's Sprint session – if he outscores Bagnaia in this, the World Championship is his. It's all to play for as Martin and Bagnaia go wheel-to-wheel for the final time in 2024, and The Sporting News has you covered with all the timings, TV and streaming details for you to keep up with all the action from the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, as over eight months of globe-trotting racing comes to a final conclusion at one of motorsport's spiritual homes.

Why was Valencia MotoGP moved to Barcelona?
The Valencian Community motorcycle Grand Prix has typically been held as the concluding race on the MotoGP calendar going back to 2002, with the Circuit Ricardo Tormo playing host to the season-concluding race on all-but three occasions since first introduction onto the circuit in 1999. Only the Covid-19 disrupted 2020 season has seen the final race of the season held elsewhere since 2002.
This was also set to be the case in 2024, but plans to bring the curtain down on the season in Valencia were thrown into doubt by the recent floods on Spain's east coast, which have hit the region hard in recent weeks. Over 16 days from October 29 to November 13, huge swathes of flooding throughout the Valencian community made the Circuit Ricardo Tormo unusable.
In an effort to highlight the suffering to residents in Valencia and to ensure the final meeting of the year wasn't left cancelled, MotoGP authorities created the Barcelona Solidarity Grand Prix, moving the race north to be hosted in Catalonia once again, providing the most seamless alternative possible for fans who had planned to attend the final event of 2024.
