The Vikings will get their starting quarterback back just in time for Sunday's divisional showdown with the Lions.
J.J. McCarthy is set to return after a five-game absence due to an ankle injury. Minnesota (3-4) lost three of the five games without McCarthy, with veteran Carson Wentz starting in McCarthy's place.
McCarthy, a second-year pro, is in his first season after missing all of the 2024 campaign with a knee injury. He had an up-and-down performance through his first two NFL starts, throwing for two touchdowns and three interceptions, while also fueling a stirring Week 1 comeback.
He'll walk into a cauldron in Ford Field, a difficult place to play, against a Lions defense coming off its best game of the season: Detroit held MVP candidate Baker Mayfield and the Bucs to just nine points.
Plus, spirits are high after star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson — teammates with McCarthy for one year in college at Michigan — received a four-year, $180 million extension.
