Japan received some scares against South Korea and Australia, but a win over Czechia is all that separates Shohei Ohtani and co. from another unbeaten finish in pool play.
Czechia is playing for pride at this point, already locked into the last-place spot in Pool C. That means the team will have to go through the qualifying process again to requalify for the next World Baseball Classic, regardless of what happens on Tuesday.
A strong showing against Japan, even in a loss, would be a nice way for Czechia to finish up the tournament. The reigning champions, however, are likely not looking for another close game after back-to-back narrow wins. A statement win would rebuild any lost confidence for Japan and set the squad up for better seeding in the knockout phase.
