The NL East standings early in the 2026 season are nearly a mirror image of 2025, with the Braves leading the way and the Phillies languishing at the bottom as the rivals open a weekend series.
Atlanta has the best record in MLB thanks in large part to its pitching staff, which boasts a 3.16 ERA, but the bats have made a difference, too. The Braves have scored more runs than any other team and only the Dodgers have hit more home runs.
As you might expect, the opposite has been true for a Philadelphia team that has borne no resemblance to last year's 96-game winners. The Phils' team OPS is a paltry .653, down more than 100 points from last year's final number and starting pitchers who aren't Cristopher Sanchez have posted a 6.57 ERA.
Andrew Painter will try to buck that trend for the visitors Friday, while Grant Holmes is set to get the start for Atlanta.
Who will start the weekend with a win? Here's everything you need to know to watch the series opener.
