“What a scam” “Bullsh*t call”: NFL fans rip referees as Tony Jefferson gets ejected for helmet-to-helmet hit on Tyquan Thornton

LA Chargers safety Tony Jefferson was thrown out of Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The call was made after a helmet-to-helmet collision with Chiefs receiver Tyquan Thornton in the fourth quarter. The ejection sparked reactions from fans who felt that the officials made the wrong decision.

Referees initially flagged Jefferson for unnecessary roughness before disqualifying him from the game.

Jefferson played aggressively all afternoon, laying out several big hits on Kansas City receivers. Thornton needed help from trainers to leave the field and entered concussion protocol following the contact.

A brief scuffle broke out after the flag was thrown, and Jefferson made an obscene gesture toward the crowd as he walked off.

The penalty put Kansas City in prime field position, but it couldn't capitalize. Patrick Mahomes threw an interception to Chargers linebacker Daiyan Henley deep in the red zone to keep the Chiefs off the scoreboard. The pick preserved LA's 16-13 lead early in the fourth quarter.

The Chargers secured the win despite playing shorthanded in the secondary. The team entered the game without safety Elijah Molden due to a hamstring injury.

Rookie R.J. Mickens and Marcus Williams, who was elevated from the practice squad, stepped up after Jefferson's exit.
