Weston Wilson's Phillies tenure likely ending amid lack of options

Weston Wilson first made a name for himself at the University of Clemson, playing third base and then transferring to second base in 2016. He would then be drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers later that year.

He would battle in the minor league for a few years before electing free agency in the winter of 2022. The Philadelphia Phillies then signed him to a minor league contract, where he would later make his MLB debut with the club in August.

The slugger avoided arbitration this season by signing a one-year, $764,000 contract. However, he does not have a contract for the 2026 season, and his time in Philadelphia could be up.

"Wilson has crossed over to the wrong side of 30 and will be out of minor league options in 2026. Combined with the strong play of (Harrison) Bader, Edmundo Sosa, and the emergence of rookie Otto Kemp this year, Wilson's time with the Phillies could be up after this season."

Outside of a lack of options, other players have been performing better, especially Otto Kemp. He has blasted onto the scene this year, handling the utilityman role with ease and being a sparkplug offensively at the bottom of the lineup.
