Wembanyama agrees to new shoe deal with Nike amid historic offseason

Victor Wembanyama’s ascent to global superstardom continued on Friday, with ESPN’s Shams Charania reporting that the San Antonio Spurs phenom has signed a long-term contract extension with Nike. The contract includes the launch of his own signature shoe line and a new personal logo.

The deal adds to what has been a monumental offseason for Wembanyama. The 7-foot-4 Frenchman agreed to a five-year, $252 million maximum contract extension with the Spurs earlier in July following a 2025–26 season in which he averaged 25.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 3.1 blocks per game on his way to becoming the first unanimous Defensive Player of the Year in NBA history. He also led the Spurs to a 62-win season and their first NBA Finals appearance since 2014, made his second All-Star appearance, earned his second All-Defensive First Team nod, and became the franchise's first All-NBA First Team selection since Kawhi Leonard in 2016–17.

With his dominant two-way play, towering presence, and global appeal, Wembanyama has quickly become one of the most marketable athletes in the world, and this new agreement marks another major step in a young career that has already reached unprecedented heights.
