Welcome to the age-old Cleveland Browns question

1 hour ago 2

For those that like consistency, it's nice that this never changes.

"It's the same question every year," ESPN's Dan Graziano wrote in a new article on Tuesday in regards to the Cleveland Browns. "What's the plan at QB?"

The shores of Lake Erie haven't seen much by way of competent home team quarterback play since the original Browns left town in the middle of the night.

As if the team leaving town wasn't enough, the universe somehow doubled down by cursing the most important position in sports for the new Browns.

Graziano doesn't see much changing this year, which he breaks down further in his article.

Deshaun Watson, Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel are all still in town. Do any of those names inspire confidence?

"It's the final year of Watson's disastrous contract, and even if he does win the job, it's hard to imagine anything short of a 17-0, Super Bowl-winning season convincing the Browns to bring him back in 2027," Graziano writes. "They just acquired an additional first-round pick in next year's draft from the Rams in the Myles Garrett trade, so they're positioned to try to find their long-term solution there. In the meantime, can Watson show enough at this point to convince them to start him all year? Can Sanders play enough -- and well enough -- to convince them they don't need to draft a long-term answer in the 2027 draft? Is Dillon Gabriel still part of this mix? The Browns have seemingly been in QB purgatory forever, and unfortunately, it doesn't feel as if the 2026 season is going to be the one that gets them out of it."

Calling it "QB purgatory" might be generous. Most Browns fans would probably refer to it as a different afterlife destination.

The Cleveland faithful will have doubts about whoever comes next, too. Is the guy they draft in the 2027 first round just going to be cursed, too?

The Browns have no choice but to keep trying to figure it out. Maybe someday, the question won't apply any longer.
