The New England Patriots added two wide receivers this offseason to help Drake Maye, and things went about as poorly as possible in Week 1.
Romeo Doubs dropped a pass that he easily should've caught, Maye threw three interceptions, and A.J. Brown got hurt. Unfortunately, the update on Brown's injury isn't good.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Patriots' new WR is dealing with a high-ankle sprain, which could prove to be a tricky injury to fully recover from this season.
A.J. Brown believed to be dealing with a high-ankle sprain
"Patriots WR AJ Brown, who left last night's opener because of an injury, is believed to have suffered a high-ankle sprain, per me and @MikeGarafolo," Rapoport reports. "X-rays were negative for a fracture. Brown has an MRI today to determine how much time he'll miss."
This is a tough injury update for the Patriots and Brown, as high-ankle sprains can be tricky ones to return from.
But with the negative X-rays and the typical nature of a high-ankle sprain, this should not be a season-ending issue for the Patriots' new receiver.
Brown left the game early on with this ankle injury after a short pass from Maye had Brown trying to go to the ground to make the catch. He got hurt on the play, hobbled off the field, and didn't return.

After the game, Brown was seen in a walking boot and was clearly not healthy. But the full extent of the injury wasn't known. Now, while the specifics of the time he'll miss are not yet known, the high-ankle injury update is a noteworthy one.
Brown is likely going to miss some time. After catching three of four targets for 26 yards and drawing a defensive pass interference penalty on an underthrow from Maye that led to a touchdown, Brown is not set to miss much time.
This injury update isn't good news, as it likely means Brown will miss time. But it also shouldn't be a season-ending issue. Brown should be able to come back, and the only question is how long his recovery will take.
